as i was washing dishes just now a thought came to me.
as a scientist i find conflicts between what i know about the earth etc, and what i believe.
then it came to me, as we are just made up of chemicals etc, and the same goes for the rest of the world,
even if the creation of the earth was purely accident caused by dust etc,
we have conciasness (i think i spelt that wrong).
dreams, emotions, etc, are not chemicals, and can not be purely electrical impulses,
radios do not cry,
so something must have created the ability to do these things, atoms can not create thinking.

a happier
mel

Did you know...the only other animal, apart from humans, that can produce tears through emotions, is an elephant (as far as I'm aware anyway)..

Just thought I'd throw that in

....and Flatworms have a chemical memory!

I wonder how come we have emotions then?...how come only us & elephants can cry?...how come we can get upset & angry?
I wonder what makes us have emotions?!....bizzarre!

Now then-here's a twist..does us having emotions make us more important than any other animal on this planet?

An example-there's a very famous and controversial scientist who argues on the validity of human life. One such discussion illustrated an interesting point...a Human baby and an adult gorilla are both drowning. Who do you save?

His point was that the majority of us would state categorically the baby-yet the baby has no contribution to make to its species, it hasn't learned how to function yet, whereas the gorilla is fully grown and can make contributions to his community...

Makes you think, don't it? And the scary thing is...I can see his point.

Yeah, but a baby won't bite your head off the second you got out of the water.

I was reading in the a Sunday Broadsheet supplement the other week about a women who decided that the next time a baby ape was abandoned by it's mother at the zoo where she worked, she would take it in, and instead of teaching it the usual limited vocabulary of sign language they usually teach she would teach it as much as she could over about the same time as you would a human child. It took a bit longer than she expected, but the results were surprising. The 'person' that developed is sentient, thinking, conversant. Able to bargain, scheme, barter etc... She would offer to let him buy a banana for 3 washers (from a washing machine that they were using for money), he refused saying that yesterday they were only 2 washers and that he would only pay 2 today! He can paint, compliment on you on your clothes etc...

It really makes you think!

As an astronomer I was amazed at how delicate the balance in our creation was...

According to theory, the concept of time did not exist pre-big bang it was a strange place called singularity ...

Then there was a burst of energy, and some of this energy became matter, which more often just changed back to energy ... for every billion protons/electrons made, only one stayed that way, the rest becoming energy again!

All the protons and electrons which makes every thing in our world were forged in the first 1/10 th of a second of the Universe, then it got too cold!

Even so, the Universe the existed exclusively of hydrogen and helium ... this formed stars which formed other atoms, and when the star got old and ran out of fuel, BANG exploded and this debris was sent around to Universe to solidify as part of our Sun and the planet we live on!

What an amazing cosmic journey we've already been on huh?
