Guys,
I'd like to make a suggestion, would appreciate your feedback. Di-what do you think?

I think it may be a sensible idea to have some sort of housekeeping rule-the general board can get pretty full, so perhaps it may be an interesting idea to have a clean out each weekend.

This would presumably enable us all to have a say- get it on the board and out in the open, and then close the topic down. Essentially, this would apply to threads that aren't updated after a certain period of time.

Di- Presumably there is an archive feature on these boards? If thats the case then topics could be moved in there and users could check in the archive if necessary?

Obviously certain things like the 'Rituals and Spells' column would have different rules, as people would probably like to keep referring back to such an area.

Anyway-opinions please?

Ook=^..^=

As far as I know, there isn't an archive...once you delete a discussion..it's gone...I may be wrong though...anyone else know?

I did go through the message board a week or two ago (took a flamin long time too! ) ..I was going to delete old messages that hadn't been replied to for ages...but then thought that even though we'd probably all seen them & taken note, new members might still be interested in them....so just ended up deleting the ones where people introduce themselves.
So I'm at a bit of a loss...do we delete...or don't we?..oh eck!

I know all members have a limit on the amount (or size of) messages they can post...I think this takes into account all the other communities they're in too & it's a set amount for each person over all their communities (did that make any sense?!)
The amount you can post is alot...so I think you'd have to post hundreds of messages before you reached your limit.

But, yep...we do need a clearout every now & then...it's just...what do we delete & what do we leave?

yours confusedly (new word!)

hi
here's an idea for what we could do to save the old threads onto one of our machines then edit the old menus out of them, then create a web site on one of the free hosting places that gives 100MB space and upload them to there. then just put a link in the side menu here to link out to the archive. I for one would help with this since for work i'm a Webmaster, and it would only take a few hours each month especialy if a few of us worked on it. as we could just asign messages from XX - to XX.... to each person and all have access to the archive site.. then just one person recreates the main menu for the archive when all the pages are uploaded.
If this isn't clear enough just let me know and i will try to explain better..
Brightest Blessings,
Ranatash

Sounds good to me...but I have to admit...I'm not exactly..how can I put it.."bright" when it comes to these things!...so all help is gratefully recieved!!

Thanks to Ranatash for offering your time & effort to help us out...it's much appreciated

We'll definitely have to get something sorted....but my brain stops functioning at 11pm...so there's not much hope for it at this time!

There is an option in the comm to add a web page (I think only managers have access to it though...could be wrong)....would this work the same as creating another website?....am I even making sense? lol

I think I'll read this again tomorrow & see if my message makes any sense to humankind!!

blessings...

Couldn't we just create an archive section of our own down the side with the other sections? Then anything old could just be shifted into it and anyone who wants to go and peruse it may. Would that work?

That's what I was trying to get at when I was babbling about creating a web page on the comm....but I think it'd end up taking up alot of space...not to mention time, sorting it out & making the site slow to load...so the discussions may as well stay where they are...maybe?!

I've seen quite a few sites that have pages & pages of discussions...the ones that haven't been replied to for longest just keep getting further down the list....so I suppose this is kind of an archive in itself..
