Hi.. me again... Im a great lover of books... as im sure most of you
are! How about a section on here for craft/paganism book reviews/discussions
maybe? I dont know if anyone would find anything like that useful or
not? Or would that come under a section that already exists? Just a
thought... Klur.

Hi Klur, my name's Athame and I joined the community only yesterday.
I've been researching wicca for a little while now, and have come across
some books that have been pretty inspirational to me!
Silver Ravenwolf's To Ride a Silver Broomstick is good in its structure
and excellent for people just starting out. I don't know if you've read
it, but it talks about everything from gods and goddesses, to casting
circles and meditation in different chapters. You can start your own
Book of Shadows with its guidance too, as it gives you the information
you might want to include. I think that Silver's style of writing is
really easy to follow and a joy to read!
Another good book, which is very different from To Ride a Silver Broomstick
is Hedgewitch, by Rae Beth. The book takes the form of a series of letters
she is sending to two people, who want to be witches and who have asked
her for guidance. It includes the advice she gives on becoming a wiccan,
rituals, dedication to the Craft, spells etc. It's a really great book-before-bed-read
as it's not too heavy and you don't feel you have to make notes every
five minutes!
Anyways, I hope this is useful.
Bright Blessings,
Athame.

Hi Klur and Athame, and everyone else in fact....
I think the idea of a book review section is excellent, we will be able
to give and receive advice before buying books, we could do it for magazines
and even websites as well! Athame, I have Rae Beth's book and found
it very useful, but I've never read Silver Ravenwolf as I have to admit
I am put off by a lot of the American authors on this subject (although
Scott Cunningham is reliable). Perhaps you could start with a review
of one of Silver's books?

Hi Athame... I read hedge witch a few years ago and enjoyed it very
much... Rae Beth has brought another book out recently but with an american
style cover.... dont but it as it is the same book with a different
title. A friend of mine bought it from an online book shop and was very
disappionted as you can imagine! Ive read Silvers book... which i thought
was a little pretentious im afraid... anyone who begins an introduction
to a book by trailing off about lineged this and that i felt wanted
the reader to bow down and think... oh yes suliver we do love you! I
havent got anything against American authors though... i do like Scott
Cunningham.

Hi Merrycookie... yeah ive got Cunninghams herbal encyclopedia and think
its one of the best on the subject that ive seen... im reading a book
of his at the moment called Earth power... im enjoying it at the moment...
although some of the stuff he has written in it is a bit obvious so
far... but makes you re-examine your own thoughts on the elements...
have you read that one?

Hi again Klur! In response to your message about Scott Cunningham, I
have read one of his books.... Living Wicca. It was actually the first
book I bought on the craft. I love his style of writing, as it flows
so well, and the sections were really helpful.... it's quite inspirational
and I constantly find myself referring back to it, which must be a good
sign! It's practical, and I guess, unlike Silver Ravenwolf's book, isn't
trying to make witchcraft sound "hip" or "commercial".
