The above ref takes you to a site with stone circles galore..something
which has suddenly become appealing to me:)
I live in Derbyshire, and am ashamed to say that I have never been to
any of my countys sites....Apparently the 9 Ladies attracts some mad
hippy types each Beltaine...i wonder who they could be?
Fill me with inspiration guys, have any of you out there been to any
stone circles, if so, did they have any effect on you, and if you've
been to the Derbyshire circles, what are they like?
Ookster:)

As you know...I'm in Derbyshire too.....but am ashamed to say that I
haven't been to any sites either...
There are a couple in North Wales I'd like to go to though...one that
used to be used by witches...but apparently they were all scared away
when they heard a loud sobbing during a ritual....one was literally
scared to death...another comitted suicide.....kinda freaky...but I'd
love to go there..
Another place I've never beenis the Crooked Spire....people come from
all over to go in there....I live 20 minutes away & have never been....shameful!
love & hugs...
...D...
P.s...thanx for the letter & card...it's lovely...
& I'm sorry I haven't been e-mailing you as often lately...too much
college work...I never seem to have much time to write the huge e-mails
I like to send you!...but I promise I still write as often as I possibly
can....& I'll be able to e-mail you lots soon hopefully!
I hope you've got your comp sorted...

i also live in derbyshire and haven't been to the circles except for
one near ashbourn but it wasn't that impresive.
have you heard about them wanting to open cast stanton moor right upto
the nine ladies?

Di, i recon that scary story about that circle was invented by christians
trying to scare us.
stone circles are cool, i used to live near the rollrights in the cotswolds,
i used to go there and try to count them (there i a myth that they are
magic and you will never get the same number twice (its around 60 -
90 as i remember but it depends on what you call a stone, some are a
bit under ground so its hard to know which are individual and which
are 2 parts of the same stone, hence the trouble in counting)
there is a definite energy there though.

I was thrilled to get Julian Cope's book 'The Modern Antiquarian' for
Christmas, and I thoroughly recommend it!
I'll hopefully be visiting the Rollright stones this weekend!

There's a very small group of stones near where I live, outside of Bridport.
Several people have reported their car lights dimming - and some their
engines stopping - as they go past. Spooky!! A long time ago in Cornwall
- can't remember where, but probably on the Lizard - I found this single
great stone. I felt an overwhelming urge to hug it, which I did, and
my boys, very young then, thought I'd finally flipped. It just radiated
something special. Wish I could remember where it was. When I was a
kid we used to visit Stonehenge, which wasn't fenced off then. Anyone
could just walk around the stones. I remember lying on the "altar
stone". Brilliant!

I envy u Kat. I live about an hour from Stonhenge, and I'll always remember
the feeling I gained from the place on that day, an overwhelming sadness.
Mind, you'd be sad if you'd been desecrated and gawped at by countless
morons who are only interested in taking photos.
Yet from the place the energy can still be felt, despite the leeching
effect of humans, this is a sad tale that happens too often in this
modern world.
As for the stories, they aint necessarily made up, not all spirits are
nice and friendly after all.......

I live pretty near Stonehenge and also theres loads of other circles
around here - Avesbury 15 miles north of Stonehenge, Winterborne Bassett,
Chisledon, Langdean, The Sanctuary, Tisbury (well untill some helpful
souls took all the stones away!), Durrington Walls (wood not stone)
and of course woodhenge, a mere 2 miles from Stonehenge... plus lots
of others I probably don't know about... I'm very ashamed to say I have
only been to Stonehenge, Avebury and woodhenge but pretty soon I am
going to have a massive pilgrimage round them all... it's disgraceful
for me to have all these great places near me and not visit any of them!
Love and cookies,
Silver

Hi all,
Stonehenge is an interesting one. When I first visited it as a "tourist"
it did feel very cold and very stand-offish. The energy there is a masculine
one, it almost feels as though the place is trying to turn its back
on you or shrug you off. But having spent time there doing ritual the
feeling is totally different. As soon as you enter the circle, if you
are there to honour the spirits of place and perform ritual it accepts
and welcomes you. The energy is still masculine, and very powerful in
a "don't mess with me" way, but feels much more comfortable
when you're there for ritual purposes. If it doesn't want you there
though, it will let you know!

Thats really interresting that you say that Seabhac, because I get very
masculine or feminine vibes from different trees. But any one I've mentioned
this to thinks I'm a bit nuts. Then again I probably am .

I am ashamed to say that I have lived in Bournemouth for 2yrs now and
have never visited any of the henges near here! I must take some holiday
time and do it!
From: Katrina Sent: 19/02/2001 19:47 12 of 21
How did you get into the circle at Stonehenge, Seabhac? I thought nobody
could get in now - were you part of a druidic ritual? I know they were
allowed there at the Summer Solstice, but I thought that had been stopped
too. The thing you said about feeling a masculine force - in my earlier
message, I said there was this huge stone somewhere on the Lizard which
I'd hugged - I didn't like to mention this in case you all thought I
was crazy, but I felt it was a mother stone. It felt like a mother calling
"Come and give me a hug". I'm pleased I'm not the only nut-case!!
So why do stones have a masculine or feminine force? Any ideas?

... my family & ancestors are from the North-East of Scotland -
apparently there are quite a number of stone circles in the area. I
think I'll do some research & next time I'm up there visiting, I'll
check them out. I don't suppose anyone on this list is anywhere near
or has any information?
From: madferrit Sent: 19/02/2001 19:57 14 of 21
WOW!!! quite a number was an understatement!! I just checked the map
at the top of this post...

Hey all, this is actually Danarbal typing from Willows computer, just
in case those of you, slow in brain don't catch on ;)
Firstly Stonehenge, there is no 1 feeling of Male or Female as it is
a place of balance, a convergance of energies of both Male and Female
(If that's how u like to describe it.) The turning its back on you I'll
agree with, but once it recognises you, this feeling departs, and no,
I didn't use no rituals to accomplish this. I suppose when you start
to become in tune with the natural and Spiritual world, such 'rituals'
are not needed. I wont go on about this now, will leave that for another
day, however, I will say that Bluestone (used in Stonehenge) or, Blue
Dolomite as it is known to the Scientific community is a kind of energy
magnet, It absorbes natural energy and contains it. If you question
this simply go up amongst the stones in Preseli (N.Pembrokeshire).
As for trees, well, plants are split into 'Male and Female' ;)
Take care now,
Danarbal.

Hey
I have spent time celebrating at Stonehenge with the Britsh Druid Order,
we have solstice celebrations there in summer and winter. They are ticketed
and by invitation only, all members of the BDO are welcome. Unfortunately
I don't have the chance to visit Stonehenge often, I have only lived
in the vicinity for a year and a half, and as I don't have my own motorised
transport it is rather difficult to get to. The "masculine"
energy which many feel there I believe could be a result of impression
- the residual energy left there from druidic and other work done there.
It may not necessarily be masculine in the true sense of the word, but
it is a cold, hard dynamic energy rather than an enveloping warm nurturing
one. That's not to say of course that the place doesn't have these qualities,
they're just harder to spot, and spending time there attuning to the
spirit of place does in time reveal more layers of energy which one
does not spot as a "tourist". This is in reverse to the experience
many people have at Avebury, which is felt to have a softer, more feminine
energy and feels more welcoming. There are many and varied reasons for
the feelings gained at both sites, they have long histories of grandeur,
desecration, love and destruction, and spending time at any "sacred
site" brings better knowledge of it.

i got a theory about your male and female stones!!
some types of rock tree herbs etc align with certain energies, these
are the ones we use in spellcastings where you choose materials with
an affinity for the task. some types of tree will always alighn with
goddess energy, so will feel "female"
some substances are fairly neutral, or only weakly aligned. (like us).
i think that these will easily accumulate the sort of energies that
they are exposed to, like the way your ritual tools hold your energies.
i think this is the case with places like stonehenge. stonehenge is
the sort of place where people raise mainly masculine (god, sun) energies,
and this is held by the surroundings.
thats my idea anyway, feel free to argue!

This is a good explanation Kash, I think you've just about coined it.
Particularly when you consider Stonehenge as a Solar Temple.

I believe Stonehenge was a place for the dead, nothing more, of course,
we'll never know as such answers are lost within the mists of time.
Noticed how many burials surround the place?
