I WISH! :p I have exactly the same problem. Takes me forever to get
to sleep. Then again, I'm a Virgo, and I like to spend the nightly hours
worrying about things which'll never happen (like the world being devoured
by a giant packet of Walker's Crisps).....well someone's gotta worry!!!!!

A milky drink before heading to bed. Make sure any distracting noises
(radio, music, beepy things, traffic) are either turned off or cannot
be heard (ear plugs are great for getting to sleep, but not so great
if you need to hear your alarm in the morning). Make sure you wind your
mind down after your day. Take some time out to really relax (I do Yoga
before bed for a few minutes, but this isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Just lying on the floor with some new age music on, trying to clear
your mind can be enough) away from the television or any work you have
to do. Try reducing the amount you don't sleep for by small amounts
- 15mins a night, or so - until it gets down to a time period you feel
is comfortable. And don't look at the clock as you're trying to get
to sleep!
Hope this helps a little - it has helped me lots
Lauren

Hi
I dont know if this might help but my way off coping when I cant sleep
is to close my eyes and 'feel' as if you are floating in a cloud. Slowly
the cloud gets darker and darker and you sink deeper and deeper. This
works for me most times, it also helps if you have many different thoughts
racing round in your head. If you consentate on this you cant think
of anything else.
Good Luck and sweet dreams

Thanx guys ill be sure to try out your suggestions. Good suggestion
munkipoo but the thing is if i spent even ten quid in a pub i would
spend the next week with world war three commencing inside my head lol
but good one anyway mate lol Glade x

I'm not sure about the giant packet of crisps Runebear, but have any
of you considered the threat of wheelybins? They are taking over sneakily.
Strategically placing themselves on guard one outside each house. Dark
and brooding waiting for some signal before they move off the garbage
and on to us! This is certainly enough to keep me awake. I look out
the window at night and see them, so watchful in their stillness.
That aside, I dont know if you want to try physical exhaustion in the
arms of another as a pretty good way of getting to sleep?!
For a more spiritual send off, I would suggest a relaxation tape. I
have one called 'A course in Miracles'. It's very beautiful, read by
a soothing male voice, with waves as a backround. I wish I could hear
it all the way through because it sounds so enlightening, but it lulls
me to sleep in minutes.
Love and light, Star.

first deal with the obvious, keep your head at the north for restful
sleep, shut out all light sources, unless like me you get edgy in the
dark, try to shut out all noise. try ear plugs and a blinfold.
have you tried a few drrops of lavender oil on your pillow, or in a
vaporiser on a bedside lamp? dont use a candle vaporiser if youare going
to sleep.
you can also get sleep stones which are pumice impregnated with lavender,
they stink but it works. you can get them from new age shops or markets.
the milky drink thing is a good thing you might also want to cut out
all caffene and similar stimulants ie tea coffee, cola, chocolate, red
bull. not just near bed time but all the time.
there are a few good herbal remedies on the market, go for ones with
balm and hops, you can try others later if those dont help. or get a
decent herbal (i use a book called the green witch-a modern womans guide
to using herbs) and make your own.
try meditating to clear your head of all tha worrying stuff. i listen
to a recording of wave sounds (solitudes-ocean surf) to help me get
into a trance state and if im tired this sends me to sleep.
good luck and swwet dream

I'd just like to add my thanks for someone asking this and for the replys,
as I have had the same problems with sleeping, and I'll try a few fo
the remedies that you have suggested. Althought I've already been using
munkipoo's system for a while now and it has it's advantages and disadvantages,
especaly if the pub you drink in is the same one you work in .
Well Thanks Again,
Galen

stop surfin the net all nite
seriously ......best cure is regular exercise. If you dont like running, get
a bike or go swimming.
Into the outdoors ? Go hillwalking or mountaineering as I do.
3 or 4,000 ft up a hill, back down again, a couple of whiskies and youll
be sleeping like a baby.

As a herbalist I recommend A strong Chamomile Tea as this little White
flower is natures greatest Sedative. Also Insomnia is quite common during
periods of stress. Try to relax more.

Glade
I have so many recommendations as my brother is a severe insomniac.
He only gets about 2 hours sleep a night. Poor little soul.
The first and most simple method is to put a few lavender drops on your
pillow and inhale. The warm milk and good book is also a good one. I
assume you have tried relaxing music.
Of course, it could be more indepth. Have you thought about what is
keeping you awake. Are you worried about anything?
Warm blessing.

Cartoon Network
(You can tell I'm 15, can't you?)
anyway. Ed Edd and Eddy in sign language can while away the long and
boring hours quite effectively, leaving you effectively hammered by
the time you have to get up in the morning (6:30, sob, it's not natural).
Oh pleez you amateurs. Wheelie Bins? Crisp Packets? Any world dominator
worth it's salt knows that the most feindish and maelevolant being on
the planet is the Notorious Emu. Surely they are the ones that will
carry out this insideous and hateful world domination. I'm sitting here
with a theosaurus , I also had a bad run in with an Emu in the zoo when
I was 5. My dad once managed to get weed on by a hippo once though.
He swears that hippos are the most vile of creatures and surely the
perpetrators of this evil crime. Anyway, we never went back to Marwell.

if you cannot sleep then try neat lavender oil on a piece of cotton
wool, under your pillow. i swear by this and so does my daughter who
sometimes has trouble going to sleep.

if you find chamomile tea icky, and i do , try a tea called tranquility
by dr stuarts you can get it at health food shops. it has limeflower,
hawthorn, and sckullcap, amongst other things, and if you drink a couple
in a row (you cant have more than 5 a day) it knocks you out, in a spacy
floaty way, good shit!!

I wish I had the wisdom of Nanny Ogg! The nearest I get is Magrat though
(pre-baby)
I find I sleep better with the window a little open, if its not too
cold.

the best cure for insomnia no matter how severe, is a run called the
fan dance which i do twice a year......basically a 64km i think sprint
around the brecon beacons carrying 40lbs of stuff with you.....that
bits optional depending on how stupid ur feeling...start at one side
of pen-y-fan run up it, run down it, turn around, run up it again, run
down it again ........collapse in a messy heap....if anyone ever says
do this and i will buy you beer and cigs...politely refuse cos it hurts
